Lake Mirror Parks

Client: City of Lakeland
Architect: Glatting Jackson and Furr & Wegman Architects
Area: 16,000SF, 8 Acre Site

Rodda Construction was a part of the City of Lakeland’s numerous parks projects which have transformed the area around downtown Lake Mirror. First, Rodda constructed the amazing Barnett Park project and Peggy Brown Building. The beautiful interactive park includes streetscaping throughout, elaborate sculptures of native Florida animals and beautiful hand-cut glass Byzantine murals of the Florida Landscape. A "zero depth" interactive water fountain highlights the park and includes seventeen water nozzles that make up an interactive experience for children. A large Florida panther is also located in the fountain area and can be used as a slide. A beautiful labyrinth serves as the quiet spot in the park. Three one-of-a-kind play equipment creations were also constructed, giving the children of Lakeland a truly unique playplace. Also on the property is the two-story, 16,000SF Peggy Brown Center multipurpose facility. During this project, Rodda installed Albert Paley’s vibrant “Tribute to Volunteerism” sculpture along the east side of the lake.

Next Rodda constructed the breathtaking Overlook Park on the lake’s east side. This park includes streetscaping, cast in place integral color concrete columns, sidewalks, cast stone elements, and paver plaza, decorative staircase, retaining walls, and an underdrain system, among other park improvements.

Finally, the ring of park space around the lake was completed when Rodda finished the project around the north side of Lake Mirror. The park areas here include streetscaping, a decorative precast concrete pedestrian bridge, a stormwater treatment park, extensive landscaping, trellises, sidewalks, cast stone elements and other park improvements.
