The Challenge:
Lakeland Regional Medical Center recognized the growing need for first class cancer diagnosis, treatment, and care in Polk County, and realized that their existing facilities were not providing the level of services that their patients deserved. Their goal was to create Polk County’s first dedicated Cancer Center, a building that would be high-tech, functional, and flexible as treatment options developed and changed over the years.
The Solution:
Immediately after being hired as the project’s Construction Manager, Rodda’s team of experts began strong collaboration with the project Architects, Engineers, and End-Users to create the framework for what would be a revolutionary facility in our area. After determining the necessary elements that would need to be built to create a first-class Cancer Center, Rodda worked with the design team to use materials and systems that were efficient, reliable and economic. Rodda helped select materials that would be ascetically pleasing, but long-lasting and would require minimal maintenance, so the Center’s staff could focus on their real task, serving patients and their loved ones. To assist in constructing the two state-of-the-art radiation vaults were built as part of the treatment area, and Rodda located one of the few concrete vault subcontractors in the Nation. Since there was not a need, or available funds, at the time for all three designed vaults, one was left out, but all preparation work and systems were put in place for the final structure to be built in the future.
The Result:
By total immersion in the project from the beginning, Rodda was able to be an important team member to help determine life cycle analyses on all of the building’s structural, finish, and systems components, which lead to the most economical, and functional building possible. By involving the organizing and coordinating the Nations leading Medical Technology firms, Rodda was able to implement all of the project’s high-tech diagnosis and treatment equipment with-out a glitch. Through dedicated Construction Management, the project delivered was a huge success, and the building is still the gold standard for Cancer Treatment Facilities in Central Florida.
